Professional Beauty produces market-leading exhibitions, magazines, awards and conferences for the salon and spa market. They needed to redesign both to better represent the core readership.
The site needed to be clean, modern and easy to use. It also required the ability to quickly present insights, news, trends, shows and showcase its portfolio of events. I designed and supplied working designs to their chosen developer for desktop, tablet and smartphone.
The magazine is a trade magazine, but it has all the attributes of a glossy off the shelf publication. The new design combines the needs of the business with the aspirations of the audience.
The mag has regular features which need to be templated, coupled with feature articles that require flexibility within the house style. A very flexible grid structure has been set with a scope to be broken whilst looking considered. The non-structured aesthetic is added to by grid breaking imagery, overlays and the use of white space.
The classic fashionista font ‘Bodoni’ has been used to give character and ‘Gotham’ to modernise.
